The Importance of The Armor of God
We are truly living in the last days. Jesus said when we see these things coming to pass, we will know His return isn’t far off.
Lest we think otherwise Satan is alive and well and roaming to and fro, seeking to devour all who are vulnerable, even God’s elect. This is why it’s so vital for believers to know the Word of God, to be aware of our enemy’s tactics, and stand fast, girded with the powerful armor of the Word.
Have you noticed how many believers are undergoing great stress and trials these days? Their numbers are unprecedented, overwhelmed by job losses, illness, financial setbacks, wandering children, discouragement and fear. And while the Lord may allow trials to strengthen us, I believe this is also Satan’s last great thrust to distract us from the goal of living for Christ and winning souls.
If he whispers into our hearts that God doesn’t care, that things are out of control, making us worry, he has, in a way, won a victory, however temporary.
We as believers are not subject to his daggers, however. We do not have to be victimized, because God has equipped us with the armor of God to protect us. Scripture says in Ephesians 6 that we are to put on the whole armor of God to ward off the devil’s tricks.
Verse 14 begins: “Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.”
If we are tempted to fear and doubt, we simply need to strengthen ourselves in the Word, claiming and standing on God’s promises, telling the Lord, and Satan that we put on our armor. Then we need to get into praise, for He inhabits the very praises of His people. Isn’t that incredible?
And most of all we need to keep reminding ourselves that this battle is already won, and we are on the side of victory if we hold on until the end.
Once we’ve done all this, we can rejoice in the Lord, comforted by the knowledge that He will never give us more than we can bear, and He will never leave us. When we ask He will strengthen us for whatever comes next.
And more than ever before, we can say, “Glory to God in the highest! Jesus is alive and coming soon!”
Because of His great love,
