Paving the Way for Judgment…

Published by nancyarantwilliams at 8:19 am under Uncategorized Edit This

“History repeats itself.” We’ve all heard that phrase before, but it bears further scrutiny. What does it mean to us today?

Well, first we must know Scripture is the one and only thing that has survived intact and unchanging, down through the centuries, and it has something to say about this very subject.

In the book of Kings, and elsewhere in Scripture, it makes reference to kings who were righteous and kings who were unwise, who merely looked out for themselves. The righteous judges regularly sought wisdom from God and made wise decisions in the best interest of the people. But every time a pagan king took office, he led the people away from God to worship other gods. When the throne was held by a righteous king, peace usually reigned, but when a pagan king took his place, peace ended and chaos and wars erupted as judgment from God for walking away from righteousness.

This process repeated itself over and over, and every time things would be at their worst, the people would cry out to God to rescue them. Often someone would unearth a dusty copy of the Old Testament Scripture, begin reading and see how the pattern was repeating itself, and how judgment had come for their disobedience. And when the Scripture was read to the people the Holy Spirit would convict, urging them to repent–to turn their hearts back to God. And the people took heed and turned their hearts toward God, and lived in obedience. Until the next time.

America is no different; we have cycled repeatedly from righteousness to paganism and lately into hedonism, where we care for nothing but ourselves and our own pleasure. We have forgotten the great cost of our freedom, the price our forefathers paid to guarantee us a place to worship God without hindrance. But more than that we have ignored the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross to buy us back from the clutches of Satan and the pit of hell.

And just as it happened to Israel, judgment is upon us. So the question that begs and answer is this: Do we have a wise king, or a pagan king to reign over us? Will he lead us back to God or further away?

Isaiah 53:6 says: All of us like sheep have gone astray. Each of us has turned to his own way, but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.

Jeremiah 23:18-20 says: But who has stood in the council of the Lord that he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? Behold, the storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath, even a whirling tempest; it will swirl down on the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has performed and carried out the purpose of His heart. In the last days you will clearly understand it.

May we hear the word of the Lord and turn our hearts to repent!

Because of His great love,

Nancy
