The Results of Going Our Own Way…
If we look closely at the history of mankind after the creation we can learn some important lessons.
Genesis 6:5 says this: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man…And the Lord said, ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and birds of the sky, for I am sorry I made them.” And God flooded the earth and only Noah and his family survived.
If we read on, we find repeated references to cycles of desperation, which I have mentioned before, where people would seek God for a time. But when circumstances improved they would always walk away. To describe this behavior Scripture often uses the words, “And every man did what was right in his own eyes.”
The trouble with doing our own thing is that it does not take God into consideration. Our flesh has no desire to please God, only to please ourselves. But the time always comes when we need God. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “Foxhole conversions.” This term refers to the desperate situations men find themselves in where they’ve come to the end of their own resources and call out to God in anguish.
It’s clear from Scripture that God always responds to a sincere cry of repentance. He wants nothing more than to know and love us intimately, and up to now He’s given us chance after chance.
But time is growing short, and Jesus is coming soon. This means that the day of grace will be over, and judgment day will soon be upon us. When that day comes, it will be too late to repent. Too late to turn around and run after God for help. He warned us repeatedly not to let our hearts become hardened toward Him. It’s time to examine our hearts, take stock of our lives, and face reality. Jesus is coming soon, and without His blood covering our sin, we will be found wanting and face judgment and eternal separation from God in hell. Today is the day of salvation. Just like in Noah’s day we will face a day of judgment when the door to the Ark, which is the day of salvation, is closed, never to be opened again.
Take heed and hear the Word of the Lord!
Because of His great love,
Nancy
