God is Speaking–Are We Listening?
Have you noticed? There’s a party going on in Washington. Weekly bashes financed by us, and thrown by those with agendas that do not benefit the American people. That’s right. We voted him in, and now we’re getting the change we demanded. Some are even calling him a savior, which makes me cringe just to hear it, because God never shares His glory with another.
Things are falling apart from a human standpoint. And now it’s God who’s talking. Are we listening? As I listened to CNN and Fox News this morning, conservative economists are beside themselves, anxious, unsure of what the future holds. Well, I know who holds the future, and if you know Jesus Christ as Savior, you know Him, too.
As much as we hate to believe it, Scripture says we humans will have no solutions for the problems that ail us all in the last days, which is why it behooves us to listen to what God is saying. If nothing else, He will have our attention, perhaps for the first time in nearly a century, and He’s saying it’s time to get our hearts right with God. Time to humble ourselves and realize we are merely finite human beings and not gods after all. We are sinners whom God loves and for whom He sacrificed His Son, but He will not be patient or wait for us forever. Today is the day of salvation.
CNN reports that this generation of baby boomers has just lost their entire retirement savings with the bottoming out of the stock market yesterday. And not only that, but their homes have plunged in value, and many are without jobs and health care coverage. Fear has overtaken many, and they are powerless to do anything about it.
Are we getting the message? Will we listen? We were listening for a few days, maybe even months after the twin towers fell. But it wasn’t long before it was back to business as usual. But what happens if it’s never back to business as usual? Will we consult men or God for answers?
God is still waiting for us to come back to Him, and from the way it looks, His coming isn’t far off. So let’s hold lightly the things we’ve so long esteemed–material things, money, position, power, status–these will soon be a thing of the past. Instead let’s draw near to God while there’s still time. God is a personal God, and He will require us to personally answer for what we did with our blessings. Did we use them to bless God or ourselves?
Psalm 118:8, 14 says: “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. The Lord is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation.”
Only God and His Word have answers for the day in which we live. Men cannot fix what is wrong. Those of us who know God can take comfort in the truth, that God is not affected by recessions, and He knows no want. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and all His resources are infinite. For those who worship Him in spirit and in truth, He will provide in amazing ways.
If you do not know Jesus as Savior, but you now see your need, pray and ask Him to forgive you of your sin and to become your Savior. Bow your heart to God, and He will lift you up, giving you new understanding of the things of God, the ability to grasp truths that are only spiritually discerned. And you will be changed, never to be the same again.
It’s time for believers to seize the moment to live as for Christ as never before, with boldness, hope, courage, and great joy. For only then will the world see the difference they so long for. This is our moment to change the world, or at least our little corner of it.
Even so come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Because of His great love,
Nancy
