Are You Listening?

Published by nancyarantwilliams at 8:16 am under Uncategorized Edit This

Have you ever consulted someone, an expert on something and then chosen not to listen to their advice? We all do it at times, thinking we know better than they.

But wisdom would say that if they’ve been around the block they probably know more than we do. Of course, we all start out somewhere, but the truth is we get to our destination faster and with a better outcome if we listen to those with more experience than ourselves.

I’ve been guilty of this on occasion, and it always costs me in the long run. I’ve learned that if I’m wise I will listen to wisdom even if it makes little sense to me at the time. There are usually good reasons behind it.

Mules and foolish men are the examples God uses in Scripture, to make the point that he who has ears to hear wisdom saves himself much grief.

God gives wisdom to all who ask, but as a gentlman will not push wisdom on us if we’d rather not have it. He never forces His will on us, even if it’s in our best interest.

But will we listen when wise men speak to us? It behooves us to ask ourselves if we have teachable spirits, if we are at least ready to give thought to what they’ve learned the hard way, lest we have to repeat their bumpy road to get to where we need to go. If those in our government would listen to men of integrity and wisdom, it could even change the foolish direction into which we run headlong.

Are we grateful for wisdom when it comes our way, or do we see it as an intrusion and an affront? Proverbs repeatedly talks about how the wise man loves wisdom. What about you?

Because of His great love.
