Give Thanks!
Have you ever thought about the fact that, other than our salvation, nothing has ever been guaranteed to us?
And yet we have learned to demand a certain standard of living, and are not grateful for anything less. I see it everyday, everywhere I look–a generation, including mine, who thinks they deserve the biggest and best, and they want it yesterday.
So what happens when it all goes down–this house of cards we’re living under?
It will either make us or break us, like every other kind of hardship. But we must realize that this is the judgment of the Lord, falling on a rebellious and sinful world. And if you and I as believers are part of the foolishness, of spending money as if it never ends, we too, will suffer the consequences.
It’s time to get back to the basics, of giving thanks, for God’s incredible love and sacrifice for our sins, for every little thing we have, because each is only ours because of His generosity. Scripture says we deserve nothing, because of our sin, but He loves us anyway, and longs to bless us. But just like a demanding child, who stomps his foot when dad refuses to buy him what he wants, God steps back from ungrateful hearts and essentially says, “Okay, figure it out on your own.”
The only thing is there’s a catch to this little scenario, because when He steps away, we are out from under not only His authority, but His umbrella of protection, opening ourselves to the very powers of hell.
We have one chance to get this right, and time is, as they say, awastin’, so let’s get back to the basics of gratitude, of bowing our hearts, souls, minds, strength and bodies, to our wonderful God, lest we be counted with the unrighteous and told to depart, because He never knew us.
A word to the wise is sufficient.
